St. Vincent's, established in 1905, is a community based Catholic College providing an education in nursing, allied health, and the liberal arts and sciences. Its mission is derived from the historic commitment of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul to care for the sick poor and to educate others for the health care ministry. The core values of Ascension Health guide the College in its service to others: Service of the Poor, Reverence, Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity, and Dedication based upon an environment which supports Judeo-Christian values.
Through its dedicated and highly qualified faculty and staff, the College offers associate degrees in Nursing, Radiography, Medical Assisting, and General Studies. Certificate programs are offered in Medical Assisting, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Central Sterile Processing, Health Promotion, Hospital Coding and other allied health fields. The Continuing Education Division provides numerous credit and non-credit courses and programs to help individuals upgrade their skills or prepare for new careers.
The College is licensed and accredited by the State of Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. The Nursing program is also approved by the Connecticut State Board of Examiners for Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. In addition, the Radiography program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and the Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants’ Endowment (AAMAE) Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs.
St. Vincent's, "The Health Careers College", is unique in that it offers programs supported by "cutting edge" technology. For example, students use Sim Man, a fully functioning adult manikin in the Nursing Skills Lab, to A.D.A.M. in the Anatomy and Physiology Lab, to computer assisted instruction in the Barone Learning Resource Center. A further advantage is our affiliation with St. Vincent's Medical Center which provides students access to top flite on-campus clinical facilities.
The College is committed to helping to meet the health care needs of the greater Bridgeport region through campus based and online instruction. Over 3,500 health care professionals have been prepared by this institution. Students express a high degree of satisfaction with their total college experience at St. Vincent's including the quality of instruction they receive and the dedication that faculty and staff have to their success.
In closing, I extend a warm welcome to you and I encourage you to learn more about how St. Vincent's College can contribute to your success.
