COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY

Computed Tomography (CT), also known as a computed axial tomography (CAT) scan, is a non-invasive medical procedure that involves taking cross sectional x-rays of the body to create three-dimensional images. Computed Tomography scans are a widely used medical imaging technique for diagnosing and treating medical conditions. A contrast media is used to better visualize the internal structures.

 Employment Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for CT Scan Technologists are expected to experience faster than average growth because of an increased demand as an aging population requires more diagnostic services. CT Scan Technologists work in clinics, hospitals, private practice physician offices, outpatient facilities or diagnostic imaging centers.

 Program of Study

The Computed Tomography Certificate Program (total of seven [7] college credits) will teach the student to operate and utilize computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce images of patients’ internal structures.  The flexible day, evening or weekend schedule will consist of twenty-two (22) weeks of online lectures and include hands-on training at one of the affiliated clinical education site(s).  This course is appropriate for technologists wishing to enter the field of CT Scanning with no previous experience as well as technologists who have worked in CT without extensive formal training. Upon successful completion of the program, the students are eligible to sit for the ARRT Certification Examination in CT Scanning.

 Admission Requirements

  • St. Vincent’s College Continuing Education Application
  • Official college transcripts
  • Copy of current license (ARRT or NMTCB)
