The Hospital Coding Specialist Certificate Program is ideally suited for individuals who wish to pursue a challenging health care career. Students will gain necessary skills to enter or advance in the hospital coding field. As a student you will learn medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, insurance claims, nomenclature and classification systems utilized in health record coding.
Program Objectives
The graduates of the Hospital Coding Specialist Certificate Program will:

- Function as entry level hospital coder in the health care delivery system
- Utilize critical thinking and decision making skills when providing administrative reimbursement services in a structured health care setting
- Demonstrate accountability for legal and ethical practice
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for personal and professional behavior
- Participate in professional activities and continuing education
This 19-credit certificate program is offered through evening scheduling, giving students the ability to take courses while continuing their present employment. Courses may be taken individually, if a certificate is not desired.
