All-Connecticut Academic Team

The All-Connecticut Academic Team recognizes the academic accomplishments, scholarly achievements and leadership roles of students enrolled in Colleges in the state of Connecticut.

Rafael Squitteri, M.D. Award For Excellence

Dr. Rafael Squitieri is the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Dr. Squitieri is known for his skill as a surgeon and the personal care he gives to his patients. This award is being given through the generosity of an anonymous donor.

The graduate selected for this award is chosen on the basis of the care that was delivered to patients in the cardiac unit at St. Vincent’s Medical Center during this graduate’s clinical rotation in this final nursing course in the associate degree program at St. Vincent’s.

Frank Scifo, M.D. Award For Excellence

Dr. Scifo is the Director of Primary Care Development for St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Medical Director of St. Vincent’s Urgent Care and the Medical Advisor for the St. Vincent’s College Medical Assisting Program. He is actively involved in the SWIM Across the Sound, giving generously of his time and talents in an array of community service activities throughout the year. This award is being given through the generosity of an anonymous donor.

The Frank Scifo award is presented to a graduate who has been an outstanding representative of service and leadership during their educational program at St. Vincent’s. One who is a symbol of the Mission and Core values of St. Vincent’s.

Anne T. Avallone, Ed.D. Leadership Award

This award has been established in the name of Dr. Anne Avallone, the founding President of St. Vincent’s College to commemorate her service to the College from 1977 through to her retirement in 2004. The recipient is selected by nominations from the St. Vincent’s College community.

In remembrance of her service to St. Vincent’s College and her commitment to the education of others, this award recognizes an outstanding student who embodies the characteristics of Dr. Anne T. Avallone through demonstrated academic excellence, as well as one or more of the following achievements during their enrollment at St. Vincent’s College:

• Living the mission and vision of the College
• Outstanding contributions to the College community through the student’s leadership of and or participation in campus activities
• Demonstrated commitment to learning despite obstacles
• Demonstrated outstanding contributions to preparing, motivating and otherwise positively impacting other students

President’s Award

An anonymous donor has given a gift of $2,000 for additional Commencement awards. Donor criteria for the selection of four $500 each awards: recipients chosen by the St. Vincent’s College President/CEO must be a “top” (academic) student and must demonstrate a great attitude toward the medical profession.
