Associate in Science with a Major in Nursing
Program Requirements
Nursing courses are planned as a progression of increasing complexity that build upon one another. A minimum grade of "C+" is required in each nursing course. Pass/Fail is not an option. Students must successfully complete both the theory and clinical components of each nursing course in order to progress. A student who fails the theoretical component of a clinical nursing course must satisfactorily repeat both the theory and clinical components of the course. Attendance is required for class and clinical experiences.
If a student fails to attain a grade of "C+" or better in more than one clinical nursing course within the total program of studies, that student will be dismissed from the program.
If a student has failed to attain a grade of "C+" or better in the same nursing course twice, that student will be dismissed from the program. Any student receiving a clinical failure in a nursing course will receive an "F" for the course and be terminated from the nursing program.
A minimum grade of "C" is required in all science and core curriculum courses. All courses may only be repeated once.
Students are expected to schedule additional time outside of scheduled nursing classes and college/clinical laboratory hours for the practice and redemonstration of nursing skills in the College skills laboratory.
Clinical laboratory experiences are provided at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and other health care facilities within the community. In order to attend clinical experiences, students must pass a physical assessment and have a PPD administered and read annually.
In addition to the regular tuition and fees, nursing students assume the following expenses: uniforms, textbooks and supplies, and transportation to clinical experience settings.
