Emergency Preparedness

Please review the following procedures.

Fire Evacuation Plan

Everyone is responsible for FIRE PREVENTION.   Fire prevention is the most important aspect of a total fire protection program.

Remember that the College is a “Smoke Free Building”.  Absolutely no smoking is permitted in or around the College Campus.

In the event of a fire, remember the acronym APE.

A- Activate the fire system by pulling the closest fire box.

P- Phone your in-house emergency line (Hunting Street campus is 77 – Bridgeport Main Street is 911)

E- Evacuate the building in a safe and orderly manner.   Always keep your primary and secondary escape route in mind.  Always exit by stairway and do not use the elevators.

Do not re-enter the building until told to do so by emergency personnel.

Bomb Threat

If you receive a call indicating there is a bomb in the building:

Remain calm. Do not hang up. Write down the time of the call. Try to keep the caller on the phone as long as possible. Document everything the caller says.

Ask questions:

  • What will make it go off?
  • What kind of device is it?
  • Where is it?
  • What time will it go off?
  • Why are you doing this?
  • Who are you?

Do your best to document characteristics of the caller’s voice – is the caller loud, muffled, accented, is the caller angry, is the message taped?

Make note of any background noise that may be present, such as a television, traffic sounds, music, and so on.

Call for emergency response by using your in-house emergency line. (Hunting Street campus is 77 – Bridgeport Main Street is 911)
