I am pleased to inform you that Dr. Jonathan M. Daube has accepted our invitation to serve as the Keynote Commencement Speaker for the Class of 2007. Dr. Daube is President of Manchester Community College, the largest of Connecticut’s 12 community colleges. He served as President of Berkshire Community College in Massachusetts from 1978-1987.
Dr. Daube was born and educated in Great Britain. He holds a doctoral degree from Harvard University. Upon receiving his degree, he spent a year as Assistant to the Superintendent of the Newton Public Schools and then spent two years teaching at the University of Malawi in Central Africa. Upon his return to the U.S., he became Superintendent of Schools for the six towns of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. He then moved to Ohio, where he directed a non-traditional Ph.D. program.
He presently chairs the Governing Board of Great Path Academy, a magnet high school on the campus of Manchester Community College, and is President of the University of Aberdeen Development Trust. He has served on the Board of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, as well as the East Hartford Chamber of Commerce. In 2002, he spent a ten-week sabbatical as a Visiting Fellow at the University of London, where he had trained to be a teacher.
We are honored to have Dr. Daube address the graduates at the 15th Commencement Exercises on May 18 at the Quick Center for the Arts on the Fairfield University Campus.
