It is with deep regret that I inform you that Dr. John A. Barone died at the age of 82 on Friday, June 1 at Bridgeport Hospital. John was a founding trustee of St. Vincent’s College who served with great distinction. During his tenure he served as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and as a member of the Executive, Finance, Nominating, Strategic Planning, Capital Campaign and Facility Planning Committees. Dr. Barone is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Rose Marie Pace Barone. Over the years, they demonstrated their friendship as gracious benefactors to St. Vincent’s College. Through their support and benefice, improvements in computer technology were expanded to provide students with the necessary tools required for those pursuing a health care career. It was a fitting tribute that the Academic Learning Resource Center at St. Vincent’s College was dedicated in their honor in December 1998 as the Barone Learning Resource Center. In recognition of his long standing commitment to St. Vincent’s and his significant contributions to the mission and goals of the institution, the Board granted him Emeritus status in 2004.
