St. Vincent’s College offers students an opportunity to utilize technology to facilitate learning without the limitations of time or place. The great advantage is that distance learning gives you, the student, flexibility to better balance demands of work, family and education.
St. Vincent’s College offers 3 types of distance learning options for courses:
This is a course that meets 100% online using Blackboard Learn (the College’s learning management system). Success in online courses depends on self-discipline and the ability to learn without face to face interaction. It is not an easier way to learn. St. Vincent’s online courses maintain the same rigor and high standards of its on campus courses, but in a more flexible format. Online students need to be prepared to interact with their fellow students in the course and the faculty member in writing. Reading and writing skills are critical.
This is a course that meets 50% in the traditional face to face format and 50% online using Blackboard Learn. The same self discipline and ability to learn without face to face interaction is needed for a hybrid course. The hybrid course offers you face to face and hands on interaction in the classroom along with convenience of an online course. It is the best of both worlds.
This is a course that meets at the regular class time and place but has a Blackboard Learn course that enhances the traditional classroom. This course may give you 24/7 access to the syllabus, class notes, links to web resources, practice quizzes, practice assignments, etc. An e-enhanced course helps you learn when you are off campus.
